Ubisoft has announced its next operation to be Rainbow Six Siege – Crystal Guard, with gamers expecting the new expansion to drop in August.
The new Year 6 Season 3 content update contains a range of exciting new content, including a new operator pack.
Today’s announcement was pretty low-key and only offered a small hint at what might be coming next.
It included a GIF featuring a crystalised person wearing sunglasses and the caption: “the best view is crystal clear.”
This could be in reference to the next operator being someone who can provide an observational bonus or perform a block using a translucent material.
Gamers are expecting the next operator to be an attacker who can wield some kind of shield.
This is based on recent leaks, which has suggested a new shield character is coming to the game during 2021.
However, as this remains unverified, it will need to be taken with a big pinch of salt until Ubisoft decides to share more news.
The R6 development team are expected to announce a number of map reworks for Crystal Guard but will not reveal a new map.
This is part of an earlier roadmap shared by the team and isn’t expected to change for the launch of the next operation.
WHEN IS THE NEXT RAINBOW SIX SIEGE OPERATION COMING OUT?
Ubisoft has not shared a release date for the next big Rainbow Six Siege update. However, by looking at previous announcements and the timing between that and the full release, we could see Rainbow Six Siege: Operation Crystal Guard arrive around August 31.
More news is expected to be shared by Ubisoft in the coming weeks regarding its full plans for Rainbow Six Siege across all platforms.
One thing that is not expected to be included is full Rainbow Six Siege crossplay support.
While R6 is now a cross-generational title, it still does not allow PC gamers to play with console owners.
And this doesn’t look to be changing any time soon, with Ubisoft providing this update in August:
“We believe in developing and deploying features in an iterative fashion. This is how we’re proceeding for cross-play. So far, console generations (e.g. PS4 & PS5) can play together. Stadia, Luna and PC players can play together as well. Coming up next is crossplay between all consoles.
“Crossplay between PC and consoles is a more complicated subject, and we want to make sure we can provide a good experience before activating it. It’s not a technical restriction, but more a matter of making sure we have better control over cheating, toxicity and type of controllers.”
