Somerset coronavirus cases rise by 231 in latest daily update

There have been another 231 coronavirus cases across Somerset in the last 24 hours.

According to Public Health England there have now been 28,611 coronavirus cases across the county since the pandemic was officially declared last March.

The highest single-day increase was across North Somerset where there were another 82 positive coronavirus tests reported as of 9am today (August 9).

Elsewhere there were 74 in Sedgemoor, 65 in South Somerset and 62 in Somerset West and Taunton.

In Bath and North East Somerset there were 58 coronavirus cases while the lowest locally was in Mendip, where there were another 30 positive tests today.

The number of positive test results in each area since the pandemic began is recorded below, with new positive test results in brackets.

  • Bath and North East Somerset: 13,608 (+58)
  • Mendip: 5,280 (+30)
  • North Somerset: 15,197 (+82)
  • Sedgemoor: 7,347 (+74)
  • Somerset West and Taunton: 7,985 (+62)
  • South Somerset: 7,999 (+65)

Nationally there have been another 25,161 positive coronavirus cases across the United Kingdom.

This brings the total number of cases to 6,094,243 since the pandemic began last year.

Meanwhile there have been another 37 deaths within 28 days of a positive coronavirus test across the UK, bringing the death toll to 130,357.

There were no new deaths across Somerset.

There have now been 47,059,639 first doses of the coronavirus vaccine distribute while 39,551,538 people have been double-jabbed.
