Bohemian Rhapsody told the story of Queen, how they got together, how Freddie Mercury joined the band and the legacy he left behind him after his death. Ever since the almost $1 billion film was released fans have been yearning for news about some sort of sequel. While discussing his new album, Brian May gave the first details about what is happening behind the scenes.

Brian confirmed to fans on an Instagram Live that he, and the rest of Queen, are “looking at ideas” for a Bohemian Rhapsody 2.

He revealed: “We are looking at it. Yeah, we have been looking at ideas.”

However exciting this is, the 74-year-old did add that he and the band do feel a lot of pressure about a sequel.

Brian continued: “We put a lot of heart and soul into making it, and no one could have predicted [its success] as it was bigger than Gone With The Wind.”

The original 2018 film was a smash hit and won four Academy Awards, as well as two BAFTAs.

One of the Oscars was awarded to Rami Malek, who played Freddie.

Brian went on: “But, yes, we are thinking maybe it could happen, but it would have to be a great script.”

He added: “It’s going to take a while to figure that out.”

Mentions of another film in the Bohemian Rhapsody mythos came shortly after the film was released.

The film finished at Queen’s legendary 1985 Live Aid performance.

After the film was released Brian said: “I think Live Aid is a good point to leave it. Who knows, there might be a sequel.”

Freddie’s close friend Rudi Dolezal spoke about Queen’s manager Jim Beach in a 2018 interview.

Rudi said: “I’m sure he plans a sequel that starts with Live Aid.” He added that a sequel was being heavily discussed in the Queen family.”

After Freddie died the band have continued to perform his songs with a new leading man, Adam Lambert.

This is something Brian never thought would happen, though.

He recently said he felt like “life was over” after Freddie died. (Via The Guardian)

Brian went on: “I was very close to driving off the bridge several times. Very close. It was Hammersmith Bridge. You can’t drive over it now.”

“I was completely convinced it was over.

“I remember driving past all these arenas that we used to play and thinking: ‘That’s gone. I’ll never do that again.'”
