Covid-19 has wreaked havoc with Hull FC’s season once again after the club was forced to call off their game with Warrington Wolves due to several positive cases in the camp.
A total of five players have contracted the virus, meaning the club has been forced to shut their training base for five days.
Attention now turns to the club’s two upcoming fixtures and whether the Black and Whites will be able to fulfil those games.
Brett Hodgson’s side is due to travel to Perpignan on Friday for a clash with the current league leaders, Catalans Dragons.
However, it appears highly unlikely that the game will take place.
Sunday’s game with Warrington has been called off as the Black and Whites have seven or more Covid-related stand-downs.
The same is likely to apply on Friday.
For the five players who have the virus, they will have to wait a minimum of 17 days to return to the field due to the protocols enforced by the RFL. It means they will also miss the Hull Derby on August 21st.
Meanwhile, everyone who is a close contract must isolate for ten days. Even though Hull FC were last in training on Thursday, it means those players who have been identified as close contacts will also be unavailable on Friday as they won’t have served their isolation periods.
They will, however, be free to play the Derby. It means that, in theory, the Black and Whites should be in a position to play their local rivals.
That is on the basis no further players test positive in the coming days. Testing will continue to take place and if there are further cases, the Derby will be under serious threat of being postponed. The Black and Whites would be eligible to apply for the game to be called off if they are without seven or more players for Covid-related reasons.
