Four coronavirus deaths recorded in Somerset area in latest figures

Somerset has recorded 347 new cases of coronavirus in the last 24 hours, according to figures released today (August 7) – down from 416 yesterday.

The highest number of cases was found in Bath and North East Somerset, where 83 new cases were recorded.

Meanwhile, 59 new cases were recorded in North Somerset, 56 in South Somerset, 53 in Sedgemoor, and 48 each in Mendip and Somerset West and Taunton.

It brings the total number of cases in the county to 56,668 since the start of the pandemic.

The number of positive test results in each area since the pandemic began is recorded below, with new positive test results in brackets.

  • Bath and North East Somerset: 13,462 (+83)
  • Mendip: 5,211 (+48)
  • North Somerset: 15,060 (+59)
  • Sedgemoor: 7,208 (+53)
  • Somerset West and Taunton: 7,861 (+48)
  • South Somerset: 7,866 (+56)

Four further deaths have been recorded in the area, three in Bath and North East Somerset and one in Mendip.

Nationally, the Government said a further 103 people had died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19 as of Saturday, bringing the UK total to 130,281.

Separate figures published by the Office for National Statistics show there have been 155,000 deaths registered in the UK where Covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificate.

As of 9am on Saturday, there had been a further 28,612 lab-confirmed Covid-19 cases in the UK, the Government said.

Government data up to August 6 shows that of the 86,207,851 Covid jabs given in the UK, 46,997,495 were first doses, a rise of 35,665 on the previous day.

Some 39,210,356 were second doses, an increase of 162,827.
