Jamie Shaul could make a return from injury after being included in Hull FC’s 20-man squad for Sunday’s trip to play-off rivals Warrington Wolves.
The long-serving full-back suffered significant damage to his knee during a 48-6 victory over Castleford Tigers at the KCOM Stadium, including a ruptured ACL, last October and has not played since.
He underwent surgery a couple of weeks later as he faced up to the prospect of spending around nine to 12 months on the sidelines while he recovered.
The end of that gruelling road to recovery is now in sight, though, with Shaul in line to potentially play some part against the big-spending Wolves this weekend.
The news is a huge boost to Black and Whites head coach Brett Hodgson as his men bid to stop the rot and reignite their play-off campaign after three successive defeats.
Shaul, 29, was off-contract at the end of last season, but the club had made him an offer to extend his time with his hometown club prior to the injury which they subsequently honoured.
Jude Ferreria also comes into the squad, with him and Shaul replacing Connor Wynne and Jack Logan, who has now left the club following his loan spell.
Hull remain without long-term absentees Jake Connor, Josh Griffin, Scott Taylor and Masi Matongo.
Jordan Johnstone misses out with a one-game suspension, while Andre Savelio is also unavailable as he serves the final game of his three match suspension.
Hull’s 20-man squad to face Warrington: Bureta Faraimo, Carlos Tuimavave, Mahe Fonua, Josh Reynolds, Marc Sneyd, Danny Houghton, Chris Satae, Manu Ma’u, Ligi Sao, Joe Cator, Jordan Lane, Brad Fash, Ben McNamara, Jack Brown, Adam Swift, Josh Bowden, Cameron Scott, Jude Ferreira, Mitieli Vulikijapani, Jamie Shaul
