Hull Kingston Rovers have announced that talented scholarship duo Zach Fishwick and Connor Barley have signed professional contracts with the club.
The pair, who both hail from local side Skirlaugh Bulls, have been regulars for the Robins’ under-16s side in 2021, and they have now both signed three-year contracts with the club which begin next month.
Prop forward Fishwick played a key role in Rovers’ 24-18 win against their Hull FC counterparts in a recent scholarship derby, while goal-kicking centre Barley has also impressed.
“He’s an ambitious, hardworking young man as shown from his time at Skirlaugh Bulls and with our scholarship program,” Hull KR head of youth John Bastian said of Fishwick. “He has every chance of achieving success in rugby league.”
“Connor has a great drive to challenge himself,” Bastian said of Barley. “He has quality characteristics that will continue to benefit his rugby league skills and physical development.
“Congratulations to Zach, Connor, and their families. Also, thank you to their amateur club, Skirlaugh Bulls who have been crucial to the on-field and off-field development of these young men.”
Chief Executive Paul Lakin added: “Zach and Connor both have undoubted talent but just as importantly they have shown great commitment and a desire to want to progress their careers at Hull KR.
“They are the first of several Academy players that we believe have the potential to challenge for a first-team place in the future and we very much look forward to watching them progress within our system.”
